Baptism

Baptism is a public declaration of your new life in Jesus

Have you decided to follow Jesus but never been baptized?

Baptism is the next step in your journey of following Jesus.

What Does Baptism Mean?

Baptism is more than just bobbing up and down in a pool of water. It's a public declaration that you have personally chosen to follow Jesus.

When you're baptized, you're identifying with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Your submerging represents the death and burial of your old life. When you emerge, you are rising to new life in Christ.

For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives.

Romans 6:4

Why Should I Get Baptized?

Because Jesus commanded it. Jesus told his followers: "Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit." (Matthew 28:19)

Because Jesus Himself was baptized. Jesus was baptized by John, leaving an example for His followers. (Matthew 3:13-17)

Baptism publicly identifies you with Jesus. It tells the story of what Jesus has done in your life. It's your chance to publicly declare that you have turned to Jesus, that you're His disciple, and that you're leaving your old life behind. It's also an opportunity to showcase these things to others in your life who may have not chosen to follow Jesus yet.

Why do you do Immersion?

Unionville Alliance Church practices the specific tradition of baptism by immersion in water. This is because Biblical accounts of baptism describe people going into the water and coming back out.

Without baptism by immersion, we feel as though the powerful image of what baptism represents is lost.

Is it too Late?

If you think you should've been baptized years ago, don't worry... it's not too late.

You may have followed Jesus for a decade. Maybe two decades. Maybe even three. Maybe you've been following Jesus and attending church longer than you can remember and have always been thinking to yourself: "I should've done this ages ago".

It doesn't matter, because you can take that step today.

Is Baptism the Right Next Step for Me?

Baptism is for people who have heard the Good News about Jesus, have repented and turned towards Him, and chosen to follow him as a disciple.

If that describes you, baptism is the next step for you!
